During the Romanian-Italian Gastroenterology Meeting organized in Cluj-Napoca by the Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology, between 9-11 March 2023, a retreat meeting was organized to discuss the current knowledge in the fast-developing field of gut microbiota and its implications in the pathophysiology of a number of digestive diseases. The panel was formed by leaders of opinion from both countries with several publications in this field. Several statements were formulated. All have been accepted by consensus.
